OSCA Annual Reports Link...

Here is the link to OSCA's Annual Reports on our OSCAnet.com.au website ->  https://oscanet.com.au/#oscaannualreports

In each of OSCA's Annual Reports, there is descriptions of our OSCA's Council Strategic Planning Considerations, Pastoral Care Long-term Objectives, Shorter-term Strategic Planning for Pastoral Care, as well a great summary of Events & Dinners, as well as helpful summaries about the Activities of Clubs and Societies.

I (Mick Arnott) would encourage all our Classmates interested in OSCA's approach towards Friendship Groups, Year Group and Peer Group Get-togethers, as well as Social Media related ideas, to read the OSCA Annual Reports, and then get in contact with OSCA directly for more information, if you are not sure how best to get involved in helping our year to Reconnect, Reconile, and Reunite with our Scotch Family life.

Each year our Scotch 82 facebook page/website initiative has offered our Classmates, OSCA, and the Scotch Family, an opportunity to have a say in how we may approach our involvement with, and use of, Social Media.

Primarily, OSCA have their say by producing an Annual Report, and likewise we too can have a say by producing our End of Year Wrap!

Within OSCA's Annual Report their are considerations for how Social Media is being utilized via their, and OSCA Clubs, facebook, linkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc, platform profiles.

We too like to share what's going on with our Classmates, and primarily this takes place using platform profiles of our Classmates choice.

Finding the right balance of showing Initiative, and fitting in with OSCA's Pastoral Care and Strategic Planning for the use of Social Media, by Year Groups, is partially a matter of ensuring we do our utmost to ensure our Classmates feel empowered to approach OSCA with confidence.

A good example of how another year group, in Scotch 99 (Class of 1999), have gone about using OSCA's Social Media initiatives can be found on their 20 Year Reunion Invitation, which was posted to OSCA's facebook page by Jeremy Andrew Chen (facebook profile link ->   https://www.facebook.com/jeremyc1/timeline?lst=100003828817818%3A657960440%3A1574753302)

https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.1484110841720279/1651901898274505/?type=3&theater

Their Reunion was also created as an Event on OSCA's facebook page ->   https://www.facebook.com/events/2121578861229117/

As with all Year Group related Events organized by OSCA's Event Management Team, Invitations are sent out and RSVP's are received.

Each year we have created an Inclusive Event, in the form of a Year Group Annual Get-together, and a history of our Year Group Events can be found on our Scotch 82 facebook page ->   https://www.facebook.com/pg/Scotch1982/events/

OSCA's New Constitution, as far as I can tell, still encourages Peer Groups to seize opportunities to come along side those of our Classmates we may feel are at risk of falling through the cracks, and are in need of identifying what help is available to them.

2020 Melbourne BBQ/Campfire UPDATE...

NB. This Get-together will be about Skill Sharing!!

I will happily organize a Get-together specifically related to hearing what experience our Classmates have gained by having a Year Group related Social Media initiative, or perhaps they have a Peer Group related Social Media initiative that they feel our year, and our Scotch Family, will benefit from also.

I won't be Organising a 2020 Event UNLESS 6 or More Classmates respond to this notice 6 months ahead of the 2nd Weekend in October time frame.

Annual Get-together 2019...

We held our Scotch 82 Annual Get-together at a Pub in Melbourne.  I am glad to be able to offer this opportunity each year, as I have done since 2012, for those struggling to meet with myself, and any other Classmates interested in exploring themes that surround providing positive suggestions, or offering objections to, our Scotch 82 Social Media initiatives.

Scotch 82 facebook page...

Our Scotch 82 facebook page is a Prototype of what our year might eventually create as an ongoing Model of how we like to use Social Media, that helps ensure we "Leave No Man Behind", and I am happy to help us move our Prototype Modelling to Milestone 3 in 2020 (see "Milestone 3 Update", below).

Our year's experience with OSCA's Annual General Meeting's format may best be considered through the lens of our General House Committee Meetings, where Teachers and Students listened to what was being spoken of during House Meetings (both Major and Minor), and then ideas where formulated into Proposals and Motions (see "Upcoming Scotch 82 Friendship (Secret) Group Announcement..." for an example in more detail)

https://images.app.goo.gl/ieJCArUYDnQYHx8W7

OSCA remains committed in their New Strategic Planning to provide ongoing Social Media linked opportunities to discuss our Year's, as well as other Year Groups', initiatives and ideas.

Scotch 82 Business Opportunities have had a boost with the 2019 launch of "OSCAconnect" (see website here -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/).

We currently have Three facebook (Secret) Groups with different emphasis in "Scotch 82 Active Admins", "Scotch 82 Friendship", and "Scotch 82 Businesses".

Our Groups received a Proposer and Seconder, and opportunities have been created so that everyone interested in discussing Proposals (or Potential Motions) can have their say, express their opinions, and most importantly be heard by their Peers who can provide feedback to them.

The aim is to encourage those who have Group ideas to also take up Admin Roles, once the Group has been created, and a settling in period has been provided.

NB.  It is important remember that although are Classmates are Gentlemen, and can be depended upon to show each other courtesy at all times, differences of opinion can arise as to how Groups are Lead and Managed.

Reaching a Consensus within the Scotch Family (using OSCA's Constitutional Guidelines), in my opinion, is about getting behind the current Principals Vision for Scotch College, as we did during our time at Scotch.

Scotch College Vision...

How do we collectively best help bring about the Scotch College Vision?

I think the vast majority of our Classmates are conscious of the fact that we are now only a couple of years away from being 40 Years On from our direct involvement as Students with the Scotch College Vision! (Scotch College vision link ->   https://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/about/strategic-intents.aspx)

https://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/about/strategic-intents.aspx

All our Classmates (if members of the Old Scotch Collegian's Association) are invited to attend OSCA's Annual General Meeting, and using Social Media, we have been happy to consider their Proposals (or put their Motions) that they'd like to bring before the Council.

I have not attended an AGM ever (in almost 40 Years), and this serves as a reminded to me that my ongoing role needs to be about helping our Classmates feel confident with having a Social Media forum for forming their personal Proposals and/or Motions up for consideration by their Classmates, before they may like them to be considered by OSCA.

Other Classmates, who held Leadership Roles during our HSC Year, are also very welcome to continue to utilize how to use Social Media as a way of also sharing the Skills and Experience they gained in their role(s) at Scotch College, which I believe provided a great deal of benefit to our Classmates during our Student days, and the Scotch Family, during 1982, and since.

Thanks everyone so much for Reconnecting using Social Media, and providing your thoughts, ideas, suggestions and/or objections for all of our Classmates to consider, discuss, and add to our Prototyping approach for creating an eventual Social Media Model we can vote on, if the opportunity arises!

God bless, with love,

Mick Arnott

Welcome to our Scotch 82 Social Media End of Year Wrap Up!!

Young Old BoyS 3 Most Like Posts for 2019!

OSCAnet, OSCAconnect, Scotch.vic.gov.au...

Taking a fresh look at how information is being shared via OSCAnet, the new Old Boy website -OSCAconnect, and our Scotch College website, is something our year can benefit greatly from, in addition to the Pastoral Care benefits of following OSCA facebook, Twitter, and Instagram Feeds.

https://oscanet.com.au/ocd.aspx

During 2018 and 2019, we have made a start at helping our Classmates consider the benefits of integrating their experience of Scotch 82 Support, with Social Media related OSCA Pastoral Care and OSCA Chaplaincy. (see our Scotch 82 Support Album for more details ->   https://www.facebook.com/pg/Scotch1982/photos/?tab=album&album_id=408770385921002

OSCAconnect utilizes a similar environment to our facebook linked groups, and has a private discussion feed like our facebook groups, along with access to a number of  OSCA Councillors who are regularly making contributions, and who are looking to explore new ideas.

https://oscaconnect.com.au/

During 2018 we explored Scotch Family Pastoral Care, and significant changes have been made to the Scotch College website that helps us to further explore changes to Pastoral Care and Student life, since our time at Scotch, almost 40 Years On!

https://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/

By clicking on the "Community" tab, Scotch 82 lads can gain access to other ways to get involved in Scotch Family life, in addition to OSCA Clubs and Societies, or following Social Media posts that are fun to be able to Like, Comment, Share!

https://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/community.aspx

facebook has generated an Unofficial "Scotch College, Melbourne" Page that our Scotch Family adds to on a regular basis, and by adding a "#ScotchCollegeMelbourne", or using "@Scotch College, Melbourne", your posts can get added to facebook's searches that are associated with the Unofficial page, which has become very popular among Students, Old Boys, Parents, and The Public alike.

Scotch 82 Milestone 3 Update...

In October 2018, and in our End of Year Wrap for 2018, I indicated that we were approaching a new Milestone (3), which I had hoped to be completed by June this year (2019).
Around the same time, OSCA announced a review of their Constitution was underway, and that it was going to be Replaced in October this year.
The "Replacement" was more recently updated to sound more like a Revision, according to OSCA's current President, James Douglas (see Great Scot, May 2019, here -> https://view.joomag.com/great-scot-april-2019-great-scot-156-april-2019-online/0839433001556597045?short).
Therefore, I am proposing we look at mid-year 2020 for our Scotch 82 Milestone 3 is to be completed, and that the milestone includes reviewing how we best consider having a Multi-platform Social Media Strategy, beyond June 2020, that will become our Social Media Model.
OSCA have taken to a Multi-platform Social Media Approach, and their New Strategic 2020-2024 plan is very supportive of Social Media.

https://wearesocial.com/blog/2019/10/the-global-state-of-digital-in-october-2019

It's also a very clear from OSCA that they intend to plan for Individual Multi-platform Social Media Strategies to interconnect with their own Social Media Strategy, and we can get a taste of this planning via "OSCAconnect", especially with the Social Media connect options available to those who sign up (https://oscaconnect.com.au/).

At this stage, we are actively using Google's blogger platform to support our Scotch 82 facebook page, and we Tweet, on Scotch82tweets, every facebook post to Twitter, with the two account being synced.

We also have a number of Classmates who actively use Instagram for Business and Pleasure purposes, but our Scotch 82 facebook account is not currently linked/synced to our Scotch82insta profile in a similar way to Scotch82tweets, therefore our facebook posts do not automatically become Instagrams.
Scotch82link is a linkedIn group that perhaps also needs to be thought of in terms of linking/syncing with our Scotch 82 Businesses (Secret) Group, even if there is no automatic functionality. Therefore, it too is currently in need of a review, as a part of our Milestone 3 considerations.

We also have a Scotch82tube YouTube account, which is a standard option that goes with Google Plus (like blogger), and therefore currently forms part of having a Scotch 82 Multi-platform Social Media Strategy.

In terms of our Scotch 82 facebook page being the Landing Page for Scotch 82 Businesses, this is perhaps something that can be discussed further in our Scotch 82 Businesses (Secret) Group, now we have OSCA's announcement about "Friendship Groups", as described in OSCA's 2018-19 Annual Report (see -> https://oscanet.com.au/#oscaannualreports).
My own personal experience of seeking help from our Classmates to be Admins of our Social Media pages and/or groups is good, and therefore I am encouraged to keep finding better ways to offer assistance to our Scotch Family also gaining the best of our Social Media initiatives Prototyping.
Thanks everyone for taking part in our Year's Social Media initiatives that are helping our Classmates to Reconnect with each other, and our Scotch Family, as well as Reconcile issues from our time at Scotch, as we look to Reunite in 2022.
Mick

May I suggest, at this stage, that by mid 2021 our year will endeavour to have a Social Media Model that reflects the initial Proposal by Geoff Marum and Mick Arnott for a facebook website/page, which includes Milestone 1, Milestone 2, and Milestone 3 Prototyping enhancements, that can be either put to OSCA for further consideration, and/or put to our year to vote on (if leave is granted to do so at our 40 Year Reunion, or at another suitable meeting, if a Quorum is determined to be needed).

Furthermore, by mid 2021, Social Media sites that Classmates want to Link/Sync will endeavour to be identified with a Proposer and Seconder, including those that have been Archived that may need to be made Active again.

Finally, may I suggest that once our year's Social Media Model is Proposed, Seconded, and Accepted, in a time frame that correlates with our 40 Year Reunion, then the remaining Groups/Pages/Sites that have not been included in our Social Media Model be Deleted (if they haven't been already).

Scotch 82 Business Group 2019...

Should we take it for granted that our Classmates have the skills necessary to perform the tasks to Admin one of our Scotch 82 linked facebook (Secret) Groups?

OSCAconnect is Social Media enhanced, and has an Admins Group, and we will be considering facebook Communities approach to being an Admin of a facebook group in our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group, in the first half of 2020.

OSCA, or our Scotch Family, can learn so much from how our Young Alumni, and upcoming Young Alumni, are adapting to Social Media, and providing food for thought, via direct feedback!

Membership to our Scotch 82 Businesses Group, at this present time, is not restricted to Graduates of our HSC Year, and we have been happy to listen, and give some feedback to, all those who have shared Business Opportunities with us.

Please also consider joining our Scotch 82 Active Admins group, if you'd like to change your Admin status to Create or Manage Posts to our Scotch 82 facebook page.

Cameron Cantely-Smith's is our Scotch 82 Businesses (Secret) Group Admin (facebook profile link ->  https://www.facebook.com/cameron.cantleysmith), and graduated from Scotch College in 1982 with some good leadership experience.

Scotch 82 Active Admin Group 2019 Update...

Our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group provides an opportunity for those interested in helping Admin our Scotch 82 facebook page and groups.

Our Scotch College Class of 1982 Group, like our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group, provided an opportunity for those interested in helping Admin our now archived Scotch College Class of 1982 facebook page (and linked groups).

Collectively, our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group, and Scotch College Class of 1982 Group, have group members who remain welcome to be Scotch 82 Admins.

Our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group remains an important part of providing a private group setting to have discussions away from the public attention of our Scotch 82 facebook page.

During 2019, our Active Admins also took up a new opportunity to have Annual Get-together planning discussions, and some group members decided that they wanted to pursue a Peer Group approach to having a BBQ/Campfire, as appose to a Year Group focus where everyone in our year receive an Invitation, and RSVP's are taken.

In the first half of 2020, we'll take a further look at Group Admin Leadership and Management responsibilities, where facebook Education helps without community building ideas, and the opportunity to learn from other facebook Group Admins, and what they've felt is important to share. (link here -> https://www.facebook.com/community/education/)

To ensure the greatest level of Compassion is shown to all our Scotch 82 Friendship Group members, before we decide whether the (Secret) Group is to be Archived, Deleted, or Kept Active in the first half of 2020, Facebook Groups/Community Recommendations & Training will be taken into consideration, as the relate to Group Admin Roles, as well as consideration of any further input from our Scotch 82 Support Influencers.

Scotch 82 Friendship Group 2019 Update...

Our Scotch 82 Friendship (Secret) Group has the largest number of Class of 1982 members, and has provided an very good environment for discussion on a variety subjects, including what's been important to us all when it's come to seeing those who suffered abuse, during our time at Scotch College, find some very important peer support, love, compassion, and advice as needed.

Upcoming Scotch 82 Friendship (Secret) Group Announcement...

Thank-you to everyone who has participated in successfully "Investigating the Need for A Separate Support Group to Scotch 82", and all that the Supported Proposal entails!!

Here is a link to the (draft) Decision Making Process that is currently in place to help decide the future of our largest Scotch 82 linked Group ->   https://scotch82friendshipgroupdecision.blogspot.com/2019/11/scotch-82-social-media-decision-making.html.

Please message Scotch82blogs@gmail.com with any thoughts or suggestions you'd like to add to help with the decision making process that you feel will benefit our year the most, so that it can be Kept Active, Archived, or Deleted, as need be.

OSCA have put together a new Social Media enhanced creativity-enabled environment where our Classmates and other Year Group members can get-together and put forward new ideas, or piece together already existing ideas into a new format, for ongoing Old Boys Friendship Groups (as encouraged by OSCA's 2018-19 Annual Report ->   https://ap.ptly.com/vic/scotch/uploads/files/OSCA_Annual_Report_2019.pdf)

Scotch 82 Support Influencers 2020 Update...

Thank-you to the great Support our Scotch 82 Support Influencers have been during 2019, as I (Mick Arnott) have limited experience with Scotch Family life, since we graduated in 1982.

Since 2012, I have heavily relied upon our past Class of 1982 Year Representative, Mike Pointer, our previous Scotch 82 Support Influencers in Andrew Evans and Jim Glaspole, and our 2019 new Support Influencers in Graham Gradbeer, Scott Montgomery, Andrew Wilson, and OSCA Collegians.

I remain aware of my knowledge and experience gap, yet this has not seemed to stop the Scotch Family being willing to come around us as a year, as we have journeyed on our Social Media Adventure together.

It's a true honour and privilege to be able to have the support of our Scotch Family, and I don't take it for granted, nor do I believe anyone in our year takes our Scotch Family's Social Media initiatives for granted, either.

In 2020, I will happily assist those who are interested in taking a YEAR GROUP Inclusive (as apposed to Peer Group) Approach, and want to share the skills they have gained with the rest of our year, and/or would like us to consider the appropriateness of OSCAconnect.com.au for this task.

I have continued to pursue my commitment to also encouraging a Consensus approach from our Scotch Family Support Influencers (Graham Bradbeer, OSCA Chaplain, Andrew Wilson, OSCA Councillor, Scott Montgomery, OSCA Executive Director, OSCA Collegians, an OSCA Club), to be involved as they feel is necessary and appropriate.

It is my heart felt desire to also have Classmates share skills and ideas that they believe will benefit all those interesting in helping all to make it to our 40 Year Reunion!
Everyone's feedback and suggestions welcome, always!
The planning process for a 2020 Annual Get-together may be altered if a Proposer and Seconder come forward to "Keep Active" our Scotch 82 Friendship Group (but I will not be a Group Admin, at this point in time).

"Scotch 82 (Connect 82)" Album Move...

An opportunity to discuss the functionality of OSCAconnect (see -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/), privately, as it relates to our Classmates ability to Connect Socially (in addition to Business Opportunities see 15/11/2019 post), is now available in our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group.
In the 2020 New Year, we will then move our "Scotch 82 (Connect 82)" Album (see ->  https://www.facebook.com/pg/Scotch1982/photos/?tab=album&album_id=470078523123521) to our Active Admins (Secret) Group, if there are no objections.
If you are not already an Active Admins Group Member, then please get in contact with our Group Membership Admin Mark Learner, if you'd like to join in this Group discussion.
Thanks to everyone who has been expressing their needs, which enables us to help Prototype the best possible Social Media experience for all in our year to benefit from (and subsequently our Scotch Family), as we head towards our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022!

Thank-you for Your Support...
